Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura (birthday sketches)

Jim Carrey turns 51 years today, and I thought I would mark this with some sketches. I've grown up and laughed at and with this man, who is one of my idols, but I have yet to draw him "properly".
So last night I drew a fast sketch of him as Ace Ventura, and copied it to play around with. I still think the original looks the best in terms of likeness, but people may say they all look like him - which must be because he has got that famous and recognisable hairdo.

Jodie Foster

After two rather miserable attempts on drawing Jodie's face, I thought I'd go crazy just for the hell of it - and with no high expectations, this went surprisingly well and fast, and the whole process resulted in this cubistic drawing of her. I do not feel I've got the likeness 100%, but I hope the hairdo from the movie Silence of the Lambs is recognisable enough to fill the gap.

I might post the first two attempts just to show you how bad I did before this one.

Frustration by pen markers

About a month ago, I wrote a journal called "Unhealthy source of inspiration" at Deviantart.com about how artists use negative feelings (depression, agression etc.) to make art. When I wrote this, I started working on this drawing, and have been continuing on it each time I've felt blue or frustrated. Come to think of it, it should have been finished in no time because of that... but I was probably too busy throwing my chair around in my room.

Alan 'Reni' Wren

Reni, drummer of The Stone Roses. Sketched the whole band in a more abstract and twisted style, and Reni came out best of that very sketch. The plan is to do the whole band this way, but with me being the artist, who knows if that's going to ever happen...

Snakk norsk, for faen!

I wish I could translate this to english, but I can't do it and still keep the joke - ironically, this comic page is about english words gradually replacing perfectly good norwegian words in everyday language of the youth.

This annoys me, and this is based on a true story - a customer of mine asked me if he could pay by using the word "pay" instead of "betale", and asked if everything was OK after the payment was done by using the english word "good" instead of "greit" or something similar.

The last panel shows the same customer at the dentist with a huge english-norwegian dictionary stuck in his throat. So there you go - a boring story for you at the start of 2013.

Oh, which reminds me... Happy new year!
