Strømsgodset

Norwegian football club Strømsgodset broke a 43 year old dryspell today by finally winning the Norwegian top division again. I played around with their logo and simplified it a bit.

What a team!

My Breaking Bad summary

I've just seen the whole Breaking Bad series in five weeks, and this is my summary of it, illustrating a well known term.

Going Down

This is a quote from a song called 'Going Down' by The Stone Roses. Just played with that and the Jackson Pollock painting they're referring to.

Breaking Bad

I finally decided to jump on the Breaking Bad bandwagon after hearing so much good of this show - including the astonishing rate of 9,4 at IMDB - and as always, with every TV series or movie, it's the same old routine; after looking at the same face for many hours, I have to go get it out of my system afterwards. This time was no exception.

Done with pen/markers on paper.

Got the idea when two mallards passed me by the ocean.

Self portrait - trading cards (extended)

With the use of Adobe Illustrator's possibilities, I chose to extend this small project to portray myself for every team I've played for since I was 18 years old. From left to right: Jondalen IL (2007), Kongsberg Esco (2010), Apollo Budbiler (2011), Apollo Budbiler (2013 jersey) and Konsen IL (2013).

And this is the first time I realise that my hairdo have gotten shorter for each year since back then...

Self portrait - trading card

A self portrait, made as a football trading card. I have to stop you before giving me compliments about the style this is made in, because I've tried to copy it from the fantastic German artist Daniel Nyari.

(And yes, I know, it's not all symmetric - especially the white frame)

Made with Adobe Illustrator.

Minimalistic Daft Punk

A minimalistic take on Daft Punk's album cover to Random Access Memories. The minimalistic movement focused on using as few elements as possible and still maintain the essence of what was being portraied. In this, I've used six elements (seven with the black background), but I could probably remove the white reflection elements and get down to only four.

Done in Adobe Illustrator.

Daniel Sturridge

An almost minimalistic take on Daniel Sturridge and his goal dance.

Richard Winters sketch

A sketch of Damian Lewis as Richard "Dick" Winters from the HBO Mini series 'Band of Brothers'.

Luis Suarez (digital version)

I decided to finish up the sketch I had earlier. In fact, there's barely any difference, just that the lines are much finer and smoother...

Daft Punk

What was supposed to be "quick work" after a great couple of sketches, ended up being much more complicated in the process of work in Illustrator. I'm still not satisfied with Thomas Bangalter's helmet (left), but I'm tired of this drawing by now and refuse to do anything else than just put it out there now. I simply cannot do anymore - I've tweaked on that helmet so incredibly much.

Pride and Prejudice

Now as I've finally bought myself a new and decent computer, I've decided to give Adobe Illustrator a go to colour/finish off my hundreds of rather geometrical portraits. This drawing is the very first one I've done completely in Illustrator. It sure took me a lot of time to do, but it has given me a lot of necessary experience.

Henrik Bjørnson

A comission for norwegian stand up comedian Henrik Bjørnson, on a night when the microphone drop became an internal humouros thing after his performance.

Arnt Finésse

A comission for norwegian stand up comedian Kevin Kildal, alias Arnt Finésse.

Garmann

An illustration from Garmann, a play sat up by third year of drama teacher class at my university, based upon Norwegian children's books with the same name.

I went to see the play twice, and as I've made friends with many of these students this year, I've had the great opportunity to fullfil my long lasting idea of drawing them as the characters from this play. All in all, I'm proud how I managed to make the drawing childish enough to match the children's books theme.

Reggie Watts

Musician/comedian Reggie Watts.

He's such a character, but still difficult to catch. At least for me. I'm not quite satisfied with this.

The Sound Guy

"When in trouble, call THE SOUND GUY - the hero who beats evil with his recording microphone, so he can later sell these sound clips to huge Hollywood productions and give the money away to charity."

But why the guy being battered is evil is unknown to me. He must have done something, though...

"Kjenne seg igjen i"

- "...and then I said 'Yes, you can see yourself in that!'"- "Did anyone call my name?"
- "Not everything is about you, Jenny!"

I'm afraid my translation is wasted, because this joke works only in Norwegian - the words "igjen i" sounds like the name "Jenny".
The people in this cartoon is supposed to be me and my friends Elin Cecilie and Jenny.

Mr. Carré

A quick little sketch I did while trying to draw suggestions to designs for a magician poster to be in our exam movie about a magician. 'twas good fun.

Sketch dump of February

David De Gea, spanish goal keeper playing for Manchester United.

Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry, based on a screenshot from the movie.

A incomplete self portrait with ball point pen - the dark, long thing on my cheek is my failed attempt on making the shadow from the hair, and killed all my motivation thereafter.

Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura (birthday sketches)

Jim Carrey turns 51 years today, and I thought I would mark this with some sketches. I've grown up and laughed at and with this man, who is one of my idols, but I have yet to draw him "properly".
So last night I drew a fast sketch of him as Ace Ventura, and copied it to play around with. I still think the original looks the best in terms of likeness, but people may say they all look like him - which must be because he has got that famous and recognisable hairdo.

Jodie Foster

After two rather miserable attempts on drawing Jodie's face, I thought I'd go crazy just for the hell of it - and with no high expectations, this went surprisingly well and fast, and the whole process resulted in this cubistic drawing of her. I do not feel I've got the likeness 100%, but I hope the hairdo from the movie Silence of the Lambs is recognisable enough to fill the gap.

I might post the first two attempts just to show you how bad I did before this one.

Frustration by pen markers

About a month ago, I wrote a journal called "Unhealthy source of inspiration" at Deviantart.com about how artists use negative feelings (depression, agression etc.) to make art. When I wrote this, I started working on this drawing, and have been continuing on it each time I've felt blue or frustrated. Come to think of it, it should have been finished in no time because of that... but I was probably too busy throwing my chair around in my room.

Alan 'Reni' Wren

Reni, drummer of The Stone Roses. Sketched the whole band in a more abstract and twisted style, and Reni came out best of that very sketch. The plan is to do the whole band this way, but with me being the artist, who knows if that's going to ever happen...

Snakk norsk, for faen!

I wish I could translate this to english, but I can't do it and still keep the joke - ironically, this comic page is about english words gradually replacing perfectly good norwegian words in everyday language of the youth.

This annoys me, and this is based on a true story - a customer of mine asked me if he could pay by using the word "pay" instead of "betale", and asked if everything was OK after the payment was done by using the english word "good" instead of "greit" or something similar.

The last panel shows the same customer at the dentist with a huge english-norwegian dictionary stuck in his throat. So there you go - a boring story for you at the start of 2013.

Oh, which reminds me... Happy new year!
